About Jem Sirrine
Jem Sirrine serves as the Team Lead for the PGA/ECR team in International Customs Clearance at FedEx Logistics, located in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been with the company for nearly three years, and during this time, he has proven to be an invaluable leader. His primary responsibilities include ensuring the compliance of all international shipments with governmental regulations, managing the training and development of new agents, and addressing any challenges that arise in the clearance process. He is also tasked with troubleshooting issues involving high-value shipments and collaborating with teams across FedEx to address delays and ensure timely resolution. Jem’s Journey in Athletic Training
Jem’s athletic training career began after earning his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University. His first professional experience came as an athletic training intern for the Cleveland Indians in Winter Haven, Florida. This internship allowed him to work with minor and major league players, assisting with rehabilitating injuries and contributing to player recovery. His work helped him develop the foundational skills that would serve him throughout his career in sports medicine.
After completing his internship, Jem pursued further education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He worked there as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, earning his Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology. During this time, he gained more experience working with athletes, helping them recover from injuries and improving their performance through strength-building exercises and injury-prevention strategies.
In 2000, Jem took on the role of assistant athletic trainer at Winter Park High School, where he worked alongside the head athletic trainer to provide coverage for all varsity and junior varsity sports. His responsibilities included performing pre-practice treatments, managing rehabilitation outside school hours, and supervising athletic training interns. Additionally, he played an essential role in educating students by teaching Personal Health and Fitness, Weight Training, and Team Sports courses. His ability to blend hands-on training with educational initiatives made him a valuable asset to the school.
Jem’s next opportunity came when he was appointed Head Athletic Trainer at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida. In this position, he was responsible for 16 varsity sports, overseeing the athletic training program and coordinating pre-participation physicals for athletes. He managed the department’s budget, handled the procurement of supplies and equipment, and negotiated with vendors to ensure the university’s athletic programs had the necessary resources. He also worked closely with orthopedic surgeons to build a stronger Sports Medicine team. He contributed as an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses in Athletic Training, First Aid and CPR, and Therapeutic Modalities.
Following his time at Warner University, Jem took on the role of Athletic Trainer at Bond Clinic in Winter Haven, Florida. During his four years with the clinic, he worked on expanding the orthopedic department by fostering relationships with local schools and establishing new partnerships. He provided athletic training services to educational institutions and managed patient intake and evaluations. He also coordinated rehabilitation and oversaw the Physical Therapy Department’s insurance billing.
Jem’s next position was at Southeastern University (SEU) in Lakeland, Florida, where he spent 11 years as the Head Athletic Trainer. Under his leadership, the Athletic Training Department grew to include eight certified athletic trainers. He managed the department’s budget, recruited physicians to join the Sports Medicine team, and collaborated with architects to design new athletic training facilities. He also worked closely with insurance companies to negotiate policies and developed mandatory screenings for Sickle Cell traits and cardiac abnormalities for all student-athletes. Jem’s work at SEU was instrumental in improving the overall health and safety of the athletic programs and ensuring that athletes received the best care possible.
After his time at SEU, he worked as an Independent Contractor Athletic Trainer, providing his expertise to various athletic programs and institutions across Central Florida.
Jem’s Impact at FedEx Logistics
Jem leads the PGA/ECR team at FedEx Logistics in International Customs Clearance. He ensures that all international shipments are cleared efficiently and fully compliant with all regulatory requirements. He manages a team of agents responsible for high-value shipments and works tirelessly to ensure all customs processes run smoothly. He is instrumental in identifying and resolving issues during the clearance process and is committed to minimizing delays.
Jem has developed Desk-Level Procedures that serve as training tools for new agents, helping them navigate the complexities of customs regulations and the clearance process. He has also led training sessions for other managers and team leads within FedEx, ensuring that all employees are well-versed in the regulatory requirements they must adhere to. His collaborative approach has allowed him to work closely with teams at FedEx Express in Memphis, where he helps identify the causes of clearance delays and develops strategies to reduce such delays moving forward.
In addition to his training responsibilities, Jem is key in customer service for delayed shipments and shipments missing necessary documentation. He works directly with customers to resolve these issues, ensuring that shipments are delivered on time and that customers are kept informed. His ability to troubleshoot problems and resolve complex issues makes him invaluable to the FedEx team.
Personal Life
Jem grew up in Winter Haven, Florida, where he was the oldest of three siblings. He has two younger twin sisters. His passion for sports began at an early age, and this love of athletics led him to pursue a career in athletic training. As a child, he enjoyed hobbies such as collecting vinyl records and baseball hats, which added a creative aspect to his life outside of sports.
In 1999, Jem married his high school sweetheart. The couple has one daughter who recently got married. He and his wife share a love of travel, having visited 48 of the 50 U.S. states. Their faith is essential to their lives, and they are devout Christians who regularly contribute to their church and sponsor missionaries.
Jem is also an avid distance runner, completing six half marathons and one full marathon. Recently, he has added pickleball to his fitness routine, enjoying the social and competitive aspects of the game. His commitment to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is a testament to his dedication to personal well-being and his ability to balance work, family, and fitness.
